I have same gripe, but think I know the answer, which is "No". Well, sorta.
My '03 ES allowed ME to reset the elapsed time whenever I wanted, NOT every time the ignition is used, as my 2012 ES does. Cannot imagine why they do this, but I have asked the corporate folks and they threw my question into a dark hole.
Who wants to know how long it takes to drive from a gas station to a burger joint on a 2500 mile trip? What we want to know is how long it takes to DRIVE the TRIP.
