Ipod Connectivity

I have owned this product for a few months now, I own a iPod nano and an iPod touch 3rd gen, the nano fit into the iPod dock perfectly but I have never been able to get the iPod touch to fit, they both have the same input at the bottom of the iPod I was wondering if you help me with this problem
