Lg Smart Tv Surround Sound

So I have a LG Smart TV 55G2 and I'm trying to hook up surround sound up to it but for some reason just surround sound won't work for it I have a magic remote and everything but I am new to all of it not to surround sound and audio but the smart TV and magic remote

To hook up surround sound to your LG 55G2 Smart TV, you can use one of the following methods:

HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel): This is the simplest way to connect surround sound to your TV. Simply connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI ARC port on your TV to the HDMI ARC port on your surround sound receiver.

Optical audio: If your surround sound receiver does not have an HDMI ARC port, you can connect it to your TV using an optical audio cable. Connect the optical audio cable from the optical audio output on your TV to the optical audio input on your surround sound receiver.
