Front Glass Top Knobs

We purchased a KitchenAid Kers807sss several years ago and so far we have not had any issues as far as stove working. My problem or concern is the knobs on the front of stove. Several times we have accidentally hit a knob and stove eye comes on and we will smell something burning and it will be something we have lefted on stove. Has there been a recall or can you tell me a way to make sure eyes do not come on. To me this is a safety issue.
