Honeywell T8602c Thermostat. It Says 'replace Batteries'.

I have replaced the batteries 3 times and it still says "Replace Batteries". Fan will go on, but the air conditioning will not. The wall unit is old. Might need a new one? We just had the compressor replaced, so I know that is in working condition. Thanks for your help. Lauri Rivetti
