Hitachi Keyless Chuck Removal: Hitachi D10-vh

I have an Hitachi D10-VH 3/8" corded drill with keyless chuck and I wish to remove the keyless chuck, which does not work, and install a keyed chuck. Everything I read about this "problem" suggests the first step is to REMOVE the screw attaching the chuck to the spindle. Well, surprise, surprise, there IS NO screw. There is only a round (not hex) cavity in the middle of the spindle INSIDE THE CHUCK which cannot be removed by any means. It's as though the drill was meant to attain obsolescence after a certain amount of use, as the factory configured keyless chuck is worthless. In order to be used it must be tightened using either two sets of pliers, or by placing the aft metal ring in a vise, then tightening the plastic chuck rotator with the force of a pair of pliers or vise-grips if the chuck is to clutch a drill bit securely enough for the drill to be used. Any help would be appreciated.
