Hitachi 42pd8700ta Problem

Hi, This set has worked witout a problem for some 5 years, but recently wehn working the picutre got suddenyl dimmer thne immeduately brighter and then went off. We cannot restore, but there is still powwer to the set OK, standby light on.   Any suggestions as to wehat might be the cause?   Regards,   BMD
