Hp Z600 Graphics Card Compatibility?
I've recently purchased a Z600 (second hand).. It's come with 2x 250GB drives - one with the OS on.But NO graphics card... My rationalle being that i could put my (not quite so ancient) card from my decrepid old pc into the Z600. ... it is an ASUS EAH4890 TOP 1GB ... I also have in the wings as a 'treat' an MSI Twin Frozer III R7950 (HD 7950) 3GB Boost Edition.However upon trying BOTH these cards, the Z600 powers up then starts beeping 6 times with the power button flashing red, over & over.I appreciate that this 'is' a 'workstation' and the 'optimised' GPU harware would be the vastly overpriced ATI Firepro & Nvidia Quadro cards... but seriously... are HP 'dictating to Z600 owners what they 'can & can't put into what should be an industry standard PCIe slot!?OR is this HP's Bios moaning about the fact that the cards are ASUS & MSI?What if i were to get a Geforce GTX card? (e.g. a 660ti 3GB) ? - Might i have better luck with the GTX 660 ti - Or will the z600 complain about this to, despite it being a Nvidia card?Or is my z600 pranged by the originial shippers .. where the machine 'CAN' use other cards via changing a BIOS option, but becasue i can't even get a BIOS screen to show, I'm stuck?(NOTE: I mention this card as i have read a a forum post of someone running this very card in a Z600.. But might he have had to tweak the BIOS first, as he doesn't say?)Hope you can shed some light. BestAlistair

From the HP site:
The Diagnostic LED blinks red 6 times and the system beeps 6 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause follows:
This indicates a pre-video graphic card error.
To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:
1) Reseat the graphics card.
2) Replace the graphic card.
3) Replace the system board.
I am concerned that you were sold the unit without a graphics card because it will not support one. I do not want to be the bearer of doom but trying the above advice from the other contributor will prove whether you PC M/B is faulty.
I have attached a link to Hp which gives help and support which could solve your dilemma.

According to what I read here, you need to enable Legacy Mode in the BIOS. Of course this is going to be impossible to do when you can't get into the BIOS so you'll need to temporarily insert a natively compatible video card so you can go in and change this setting. You can find a list of compatible cards here under "Replacement part information".
