you can temporarilary use an external usb mouse if you have one. You may have to plug it in and then reboot the computer but I have the same exact model laptop as you and you can use external mouse, keyboard, bigger screen monitors in HD or regular VGA. Now that you can work again, go to the device manager and check the driver for the touchpad. It may be outdated or sometimes they just get out of whack. You can go to hp.com and click on support/downloads/drivers and once you enter your mode info then it will bring up a list of all available drivers available for download. I would download the newest driver for the touchpad and reinstall it. It has done the trick for me many times on laptops. They can be picky about their touchpads and they are so aggravating to get used to using anyway lol. I have gotten to where I just use a cheap wireless mouse for my laptop. I got tired of it taking so long to do anything with the touchpad. If that doesn't fix it then you may need a new touchpad. The actual part is not expensive (around $30.00 on Ebay) but unless you know someone who knows how to replace it I don't know what a computer repair shop will charge you. I know they charge a lot for labor and mark up the prices on parts too. Good luck to you
