As said if you factory reset the laptop you would lose everything. Restoring Windows is an option keeping your files is an option available via the diagnostic menu accessible during boot up.

From your initial quote it seems that the laptop either has a faulty fan or the fan itself is blocked by fluff causing no airflow. This would entail dismantling and cleaning the fan. Check out youtube for advice on how to. This is one example:

Restoring the laptop to factory defaults will permanently remove all personal files, any software you have installed, and will return the laptop to factory settings
