How Do I Add A 'read Receipt' To My Email To Ensure Recipient Gets Document?

I am emailing a scanned document and need to ensure it is read by recipient. How do I add this read receipt

There are many software products available for this purpose, but with the exception below I've found them all to be worthless or worse (worse because of misplaced reliance the user may place on them).The one I use is (free) Privnote, which does not promote itself for this purpose. Instead of tracking your email, Privnote tracks when the recipient reads a note to which she's referred by a special link you include in the message. Privnote actually promotes itself for its self-destruct notes that the sender can cancel any time before they're read, and these features may be useful as a bonus.
