Hp 17-j020us Laptop Won't Start

Opened laptop and instead of screen coming on it stayed blank (off). Instead of power button lit, it was blinking. Like when it is sleeping. Pushed power button a few times. Eventually the power button stopped blinking. Can’t power on. When plugged in, the light next to the plug in glows white. Went to troubleshooting web site, did, hard reset and removed and put back the memory modules. Nothing. Took it to Office Depot where I purchased it 8-2014. They had no clue. I tried the 4 usb ports to see if they would charge phone. One of the usb ports on the left side would charge my phone. Tried it on battery and adapter. Worked both times. Tried a hard reset and checked the memory modules. Any ideas? Purchased new 9-13

I have come across a lot of laptops that have suffered from this issue. It is often caused by the fan outlets becoming blocked with fluff and the CPU overheating. The System board (M/B) will sense this and shut it down. It requires an engineer with the skills to dis-mantle and clean the laptop. Replace the heatsink compound between the CPU and the extractor fan assembly. There are U-tube videos on how to do it but it does take some time and effort to not break anything. This is is a cheaper option than buying a new motherboard or a new laptop. On the HP site is a guide to running diagnostics on the separate items. It can be found here.
