Oven Thermostat Fire Hazard

I have installed several GE JGBS23  stoves in  apartment units that I rent. In one unit, grease has dripped down into the oven thermostat from the cook top through various cracks.  When this happens, the thermostat fails in the gas ON position.  Had the stove been unattended, a fire would have been the likely result. Is there a fix in the form of a shield to keep the grease from getting into the oven thermostat?
