Microsoft Mouse And Keyboard Detection Driver Is Defective

On my Gateway DX4820:The Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard detection driver is defective (now an 'unknown device') and the computer does not recognize USB keyboard, USB Mouse, or USB printer. How can it be fixed?

I do not see a way to respond to you directly sp perhaps this will reach you. By the way I find the wording of the 'not acceptable' answer a tad impolite...

THe problem is a fried component on the motherboard and it seems that these days no one would touch an 11 year old motherboard so I just thought I throw it out there. Thanks for trying to help.
