How Does One Update The Maps For The Garmin Nuvi 200w?

We are unclear as to how the map update process works. We are working under the assumption that we would download the maps and then transfer them via USB cable. However, we don't understand howor if the SD memory card would be incorported in the process. Also, there is a Lifetime Gift Card option that we are not sure what that means. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
