Why Are Your Cashiers So Rude, Belittling, Demeaning And Condescending?

I was shopping at your Vista Village location, in Boise Idaho, today, and the cashier, Patty, told me I can't take her divider stick, because it smashes peoples' purchases. I told her, I was only trying to make room on the conveyor belt for the items of the customers behind me, and she proceeded to lecture me like a child! I absolutely DO NOT respond well to condescension, I am in my 40's, ok, there is no reason for this unacceptable behavior. I told her, "ok, ok, it's fine, can we just move on with our lives, please?". She then had the nerve to get angry at me and would barely speak another word to me, but was VERY cordial with the people behind and in front of me.This has been an ongoing problem between me and the cashiers, and I am sick of it. If I don't put a divider stick down, the cashiers get angry, because they can't differentiate one customer's items from another. So, even though, it's supposed to be the customer who is being catered to, I can't seem to make any of your cantankerous cashiers happy! You need to either update your conveyor belt configuration, or get more divider sticks! Why would you create a situation that's obviously going to be problematic? How about being rational and logical, instead and solving the problem? And how about you mention to your employees that customer service should NEVER, EVER include demeaning, belittling and lecturing the customers, who, by the way, are your bread and butter?! I cannot even believe you have hired people who have to be told that! The next time I go in there, I will expect Patty's attitude to be less hideous than her birthmarked face. Thanks.

I think your post is more of a complaint than a question--but I hope I can help anyway.

First of all, they are not our cashiers--we're an independent help site not connected with Dollar Tree.

Taking your questions at face value, the answer is one that you probably know: it could be poor management or poor selection of personnel. But you don't have to just take it. Here are steps to consider, in order:
  1. Complain to corporate: Use this corporate contact information: http://www.corporateofficeowl.com/dollar%20tree/Corporate%20Office.
  2. Complain to your state's consumer protection agency: see https://www.usa.gov/state-consumer. Or if necessary complain to the agency where Family Dollar is located. (You can determine that using the link in par. 1 above.)

In addition, you may want to consider a review/complaint site like www.complaintsboard.com/, http://www.consumeraffairs.com/, or https://www.yelp.com/, each of which may get action from the offending companies

Hope this is useful. Please don't forget to click the Accept This Answer button if you do accept it. My aim is to provide reliable helpful answers, not just a lot of them. See https://www.helpowl.com/profile/Odin.

I know the answer to this. This is because the cashiers do not get paid alot of money .the pay is garbage. They are forced to work horrible hours. and the pay is not even worth there time. and some of them have familys to feed and some are moms with kids or teens. we all know the stress of having a teen. And i know for some this is not an excuse. But this is there excuse.
