Hopper Deletes Protected Recordings

my dish network hopper appears to be spontaneously deleting all of my recordings, including protected recordings and shows that have just recorded but not yet watched. i should not have to go in and restore my recordings every day. i never let the hard drive get more than 40% full, so that's not the problem. how can i stop this from happening?
