Dell Latitude D610 Problem?

I have an issue with the system. Whenever i boot it up the dell screen loads fine, then it transitions to the windows xp loading screen. The windows xp screen seems to load, then the screen goes black. Someone told me to reinstall windows xp, but im not sure. Any advice?
