Problem With Sending Faxes

After dialing the fax number, we get a voice message saying the the number needs to be preceded by the area code and that the number needs to be a proper 10 digit number. We always check the number before sending the fax. Can the dialing mechanism in a printer/fax unit become defective? We can receive faxes OK

Best way to find out if it's on your end or theirs is to call the fax number on the phone. If you don't get through it's on their end. If you do get through and hear the beeps and hiss then call the company direct and ask if their fax is OK. Sometimes they run out of paper or get jammed.

If everything is OK on their end try another fax number. Make sure you have a dial tone too if you don't hear a dial tone then your end is the problem. May need a new cord or different configurations set up through the Fax and printer wizards.
