If your Closed Caption option is grayed out on your TV, it is likely that you are using HDMI as your connection type. Currently, Closed Caption Display (CCD) is not supported by HDMI, so there is no way for your TV to control the CCD signal that is being broadcast from your cable or satellite box, which is why it is greyed out. This means that you will need to control the CCD option on your cable or satellite box, as it is this device that is broadcasting the service.

Another note: If a setting option appears in gray, this indicate that the settings option is unavailable in current input mode' please change the standard input mode.

Hope that is helpful.
