If you want to do a hard reset on your device, hold down your home button and your power button at the same time for about 10-15 seconds. If you accidentally took a screenshot, then take your fingers off and try again. Once you have succeeded, the iphone screen will go black and if it doesn't turn back on its own just hold the power button like your turning it on.
