Slow Performance Of Aspire Aspire X1800 Desktop.

Hi, I have an Acer Desjtop Aspire X1800 running Windows 7 64 bit. It has 4GB RAM, and 2.50Ghz processor, with Intel core2 quad Q8300. HD is 916GB. You would think this kind of setup wouldn't be prone to performance issues but it is - the main problem I have being VERY slow startup times upon logging in to my Windows profile - it just seems to hang and hang while everything loads up. Also, sometime after logging in this hanging problem will recur, and any current operation will slow to an absolute crawl. I have no icons on my desktop other than Recycle bin. My antivirus is Avast 6.0. I do not have an excess of programs loaded on my machine; in fact 850GB is still free. I don't play any demanding games so I don't understand what this horrible, chronic issue is about. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thank you for your help!

This sounds like it may be a harddrive problem. You can run a scan disk. When it runs the scan, watch is to see if there are (and how many) bad sectors there are. If you have lots, that may be a sign of a bad hard drive. You can also examine the smart status if the drive using this tool.

It could be the software Acer has put on your PC......

Go to http://www.support.acer.com and search for Acer ePerformance Management.....it'll give you an idea of how you can tailor this software so that it doesn't impact your performance.......hope this helps!!
