Was a good console, Microsoft is pretty cheap though.
I've had this console for a good amount of years and never experienced the "red ring of death"(phew). The console performed fine, but for people on a budget, you may want to get a PS3. (I have both) Microsoft charges ~$60 a year for Xbox live gold, which is necessary to play online and other features. After you have gold, you still have to pay for themes (backgrounds) among other things. Playstation provides both for free, so in the long run Playstation is MUCH cheaper. One of the only reasons I bought an Xbox was for Halo and other exclusives (worth it). Another reason to buy an Xbox is that most of your friends probably have it instead of PS3. So overall it is a solid console, but you may want the PS3 for long term cost. (Just get both:)

I have purchased 2 x-boxes within the last 5 years, along with a re-conditioned one. Two of them have the "red rings of death". Microsoft continues to sell defective products and then leave their customers in the dark!
