Bought Used, but still nice!
I got this laptop used from CraigsList. The screen on it was black and therefore not functioning. I knew that HP had some laptops with video issues and had a recall, but once I got home realized this wasn't one.I did some testing and found it was a bad inverter and once that was replaced, pow!! Up and running!
I really wish HP had included this laptop in their Windows 7 database, the Turion CPU and 2GB RAM is enough to run 7, and the nVidia chipset is more than adequate for all the bells and whistles Aero has to offer.
The bottom of the laptop has easy access to the hard drive (it has 2 bays so you can really pack in the storage space, or do a SSD/HDD combo), the RAM and wireless card. It was easy enough to pull the in inadequate 512MB RAM and put 2x1GB sticks in and 2 screws and 2 antenna later, it has a nice new wireless-N mini PCIe card in running at 300mbps, instead of the 54mbps G module in there. HPs are picky about what PCIe cards you can use, but this nor my wife's newer dv6-1334us balked at getting a Broadcomm replacement (HP whitelists only certain cards as compatible, the system won't recognize my Atheros based card).
All in all, for the $40 I paid and the $18 for a WLAN upgrade and $10 for the inverter, I should be able to make a nice profit and someone else will get a nice laptop that will last them at least 2-3 more years.
