Entry level laptop that can handle its own and then some.

This laptop is perfect for day-to-day tasks. With its four cores web-surfing, music, videos all play seamlessly and windows open with relative ease and speed. It's on the larger end of laptops with a 17.3" screen and it isn't too light either. I will admit, however, that I am not a fan of the little mini laptops. I'll take size over portability any day.
Moving on, if you're like me and say "whoa, 1.4GHz? My relic '03 PC clocks in faster than that...," don't fret, it will bump up to turbo and churn out a respectable 2.3GHz if the need ever arises (and it will).
If you're looking for a gaming laptop you will have to look elsewhere. That said, it can still handle its own with many of the games that are coming out today, albeit on low-medium settings. Although, on games that aren't too processor heavy, it comes through flawlessly most of the time. For example, games like Nation Red, Dungeon Defenders, Krater, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R Call of Pripyat all handle very well at medium-high settings. Don't expect to run Crysis on max, however.
The real potential of this laptop is only open to those who are willing to Over-Clock. The 1.4GHz-2.3GHz jump leaves a lot of room to tweak the clocking speeds. I've OC'd it to 2.5GHz with no adverse or noticeable problems, and tweaked the intermittent speeds to suit my needs. For example raising the 1.4GHz non-turbo speeds up to 2.0GHz before turbo. These changes make it much more suitable to handle more processor-heavy apps and games. Be warned however, that you will almost always need a constant power supply if you plan to do this. The higher speeds will destroy battery life with little warning.
Disclaimer: Over-clock at your own risk! Over-clocking can void your warranty and severely damage vital components of your computer if you don't know what you're doing.
However, if you are looking to OC, I would recommend K10STAT.
All-in-all nothing about the specs really screams "great," but for for $500 and some change its performance to cost ratio is hard to beat. If you're looking for something with a little 'oomph' that won't break the bank, you can't beat a $5XX, 4-Core, easily OC'd laptop that can handle what you can throw at it and then some.
