Video Processing Resolution Choice

The "Processing" from the Setup (Video)menu. My HDTV went nuts when I select 1080p. The screen shows green color, red color and unstable images of stripes. I can only select 480p. Do I have a defect RX-Z7 receiver? I have both ps3(HDMI in1) and Comcast HDTV digital box (HDMI in3) and Z7 HDMI out 1 to my projector HDMI 1. Will the receiver resolution set on 480p affect both os3 and HDTV display 1080p resolution? Thank you.
