Toshiba Model 42av500u Lcd Picture Problem
We bought this TV a year ago last Dec. From time to time whern we turn our TV on we have no picture but have sound. We are using the remote and we may have to try a many as 2-4 times before the picture comes on.We never know when it will happen. The tv works fine except for this.What could be the problem

The issue you are discibing is what is known as in the industry as "darkstart".
If it happens simply turn the TV off & back on once (or twice). The condition is intermittent happening rarely and may occur after prolonged periods of being turned off (more than 1 day). External factors such as installation in a cool room (basement) and low ambient light conditions (in a cabinet with closed doors or in a dark corner) increase frequency of the condition slightly.

this could be a known issue. i have the same model. and friends who have it have the same issue. from what i've noticed when this happens. i usually have my digital cable box on. if i turn off the tv, then the digital box, THEN turn the tv back on. the picture comes back everytime. then i power the digital box back on and it works, however. i've noticed that once in a while, the tv seems to flicker or go black and sound cuts out for about a split second but the picture then returns in about 2-3 seconds. i thougt maybe it was the digital box but we have the same box on our other Sony 50'' wega and that never happens.
