How Come My Texts Don't Make Noise?

i set an alert type to inform me of incomig texts, but it remains silent. it wont even vibrate when i get a text message. how d iset it up to make some sort of noise or vibration so i know when i get a text?

set your ringtone and then turn the phone off and take batery out put it back in and turn phone on should be good to go
