Picture Problem

blinking red light 8 times you can hear the tv is on but no image what could be the problem

Well according to the manual eight blinks is bad power from the G3 power supply that is part of the DIC assembly: Manufacturer   Sony Part Number A-1605-864-A Description DIC BLOCK COMPL ASSY   List $311.10

and this error should shut the TV down, so the fact that the TV stays on and has audio is different.

The no picture could be the lamp, so you should pull it out and look for obvious damage. While you have the lamp door off also look for any warping  due to excessive heat. If it's melted then contact Sony for evaluation and options.
