How Do I Get The Tv Sound To Broadcast Through The Surround Sound System.

I wired up the system using HDMI cables from the UVerse cable box to the TV.  and HDMI cable from the Sony FX500 to the TV. and a Digital op cable from the UVerse reciever to the sony FX500.  I can not get the sound from the TV to come through the surround sound speakers.  What am I missing. Can you help
