When you get the "Authentication failed" message, that's generally because the username and/or password are incorrect. You can enter the correct username and password by going to User Tools/Counter > System Settings > File Transfer > SMTP Server Authentication.
Occasionally this error could also be caused if your email server does not require authentication, but authentication has been turned on.
