Universal Remote Code Required For Philips Dvd Player, Model Dvp5960/37

I have tried all of the 3 digit and 4 digit codes absolutely no luck I followed the instructions on how to reset and clear the RCA universal remote and tried every code again. The original remote that came with the player is long gone, hence the universal remote. If the IR sensor on the player is faulty, could this be the reason the remote is indicating each of the codes I entered are incorrect
