My Panasonic Sabt235 Blueray Home Theater System Is Not Producing Surround Sound

I have a Panasonic SABT235 BlueRay home theater system hooked to an LG Plasma TV with an HDMI cable. I also have a DirectTV DVR box hooked to my TV with an HDMI cable. Surround sound works when a DVD is being played but does not work when watching TV. Are the hookups incorrect or are there settings that need to be corrected? The system worked at my old house but has not worked since we moved. I would like to get the surround sound to work when I watch regular TV. Any ideas?

If you refer to pages 13 onwards of the user guide you can check you have the correct cable connections. If the unit worked fine before moving I would suspect an incorrect connection.
