Control Panel Lights Not Working

My Maytag dishwasher did pretty much the same thing. Finally the lights wouldn't even come on. Since the dishwasher was less than 18 months old, I was ticked! But I went online and found the following, which fixed the problem for me, at least temporarily. Unplug the machine. Inside the door, across the top, were 4 screws (1 at each corner, 2 on either side of the latch). These are what I think are called torx screws, and require a screwdriver other than a slot or Phillips head. Then I wiggled the control panel loose, and inside is a ribbon which attaches the wires from the buttons to the computer (or what I think is a computer). There is a little bracket that holds the ends of the ribbon in place. Lift the ribbon out, and there is a clasp sort of like the plug for a phone that holds the 2 parts together. Push down on that clip and wiggle the 2 plastic pieces apart. Then run a pencil eraser back and forth across the ends of the ribbon inside the plastic housing. Put the 2 plastic housing pieces back together, snap the plastic piece back into the clip, put the control panel back in place, replace the screws, and try the buttons. One online contributer said he got some of the buttons to work, went back through the process again, and then all the buttons worked. Another contributer said he needs to do this every couple of months or so, but at least it keeps the repaiman away.
