Why Would A Dishwasher Quit In The Middle Of A Sanitizing Cycle?

The Maytag Dishwasher MDBH969AWB1 was running in the sanitizing cycle with no dishes at all and in mid cycle it quit and all the lights went off the door anad will not turn on again. The breaker is fine so it is not the power. The knock out plug has been removed, no kinks in hose, no food lodged. New tenants just moved in and everything was working. Unit is 3 yrs old.
