Lenovo Thinkpad Won't Power Up. Message 'critical Low-battery Error'

Computer has been plugged in for many hours. Presumably fully charged.What reasons could there be for "not powering up" message"

How do I fix critical low battery error?

Remove the battery, then plug in the charger. Turn on the laptop. If the problem disappears, turn off the laptop and install the battery and wait for an hour. Don't turn on the laptop.

What does critical low battery mean for a Lenovo laptop?

The manual says for this error: Solution: The computer turns off, because the battery is low. Connect the ac power adapter to the computer and charge the battery, or replace the battery with a fully charged one.
