Thanks for your note! I ended up figuring it out. It was a combination of what you said and my own ignorance.
As you said, when there is a separate graphics card, it supersedes the motherboard's built-in graphics ability.
On the K430, there are two sets of ports. One is on a removable bay lower down, near the audio ports. This set is HDMI, DisplayPort, and DVI-I/dual-link. These are the functioning graphics card ports. There is a second set higher up; on my machine it was an HDMI and VGA. These are connected to the motherboard and are nonfunctional.
I used different cables to plug everything into the lower ports and everything worked great.
Thanks for your assistance, and I hope this helps someone else (especially someone who doesn't want to open up their machine, like me :-D).
