Lenovo K430 Doesn't Recognize Monitor

The problem of your Lenovo IdeaCentre K430 might be a driver conflict between the graphics driver from the motherboard and external graphics card. Please try to remove the VGA driver installed for the integrated graphics card and install only the VGA driver for the external graphics card. If this did not solve the issue, it might be related to a hardware failure on the part of your monitor.

Thanks for your note! I ended up figuring it out. It was a combination of what you said and my own ignorance.

As you said, when there is a separate graphics card, it supersedes the motherboard's built-in graphics ability.

On the K430, there are two sets of ports. One is on a removable bay lower down, near the audio ports. This set is HDMI, DisplayPort, and DVI-I/dual-link. These are the functioning graphics card ports. There is a second set higher up; on my machine it was an HDMI and VGA. These are connected to the motherboard and are nonfunctional.

I used different cables to plug everything into the lower ports and everything worked great.
