Handset Contacts

I have my mums old phone and her number was saved as me . i cant find it anywhere to change the name and now i saved one of my friends number to hadset and cant find that . where can you see the contacts saved to handset ? (PS i searched the names and there are no contacts but when my mum texts me it recognises the number . Help please!
