Have A Kenmore He2 For Only 2.5 Years And Have To Replace The Drum Already

I am now being advised that I have to pay $450 for labor through Sears technicians. Why only after 2.5 years am I having to repair this unit. Only have 2 members in this household and do not do a lot of laundry? I would like a reason why this is when I paid top dollar for these products.
