Display Is Blank And Heat Not Working

I attempted to adjust the heat by turning it up a little and suddenly, the screen went blank. I replaced the batteries, which didn't work. I then tried to reset by turning batteries in opposite ways, still not working. Am I going to have to replace the thermostat?
