Why Am I Unable To Install Any Operating System On My Three Hp Rp5000 Computers.

When I tried to install the Windows XP the installation process stopped when installation files have been copied and the instruction appears asking you to select disk partition and start installation.  Then a message appears telling me that there has been a serious or fatal error and the process has been stopped in order to protect my computer. I tried Windows 98 and upgrade from there and again I am told there is an ERROR LOADING USER.EXE. I have substituted the drives (HDD,FDD) and RAM (256) without success.  What can be the problem?
