Hp 110-3510nr 10.1'

I have a HP 110-3510NR 10.1" notebook. A few months ago I received a system update message so I let it do the update. When the update finished it had to restart. When it came back on I logged in like normal and come to find out all my photo's from the last 2 years have been deleted. I can't find them anywhere. Since this has happend I have left my notebook turned off incase it makes my chance more likely that i wont get them back if I turn it off and on. Is there any way to get them back?
