F4500 Printer All In One. Can I Scan Without Printing? I Don't Want To Print.

I have owned my printer since Christmas and just tried scanning today. I'm hooked up for wireless but understand I have to use a USB cable to scan. My Computer (an HP G56 laptop) loaded the driver and my scan was underway, but it also printed. I also noticed that the scans went to my documents file and I'd want them stored in my picture files. Am I doing something wrong?
