Hp 5100tn Laser Printer In Windowsxp

How can I get the above printer to work with my computer's Ethernet port?My computer's Bios says that the port is enabled. The LED at my printers Ethernet port is lit.The printer prints a correct test page.I have what I think is called an Ethernet switch but I don't know what ports to use. I am very good with my CAD software but I am not very good with computers.Sincerely,Ralf

I have attached a link to HP with the info and support for your printer. Your computer can state that the ethernet port is enabled but that does not give you connectivity. You need to have a network router connected to the printer with a valid IP address and then configure an IP printer port on your computer to connect through the network to the printer. If you do not have a router then you need to create a network on your PC. and then configure the printer to join that network through the same options. Easier to use a router. Others in the family will also be able to access the printer through the network.

If you want the printer to be a standalone then use the USB port (if fitted). Then obtain a switch which will enable a connection system. This would be advisable as the security on XP is not up to current standards
