Display On Machine Is Flashing An F

The display on my answering machine is flashing an F instead of a 0. Is this an error message, and if so, what does the flashing F mean and how do I go about fixing this (getting the machine to display a 0).Thank you!

This is a common fualt in these machines, for which there does not seem to be a permanent fix. Unplug it, wait a few minutes. and replug.
