Doesn't Find Hdd

I have removed the battery & reset date etc - now it recognizes USBs etc - but still not finding HDD.   This began with no warning signs... when the system starts up the MOBO beep occurs then it is like it is going to power down or shut off (fans drop right down) then everything powers up and I hear a small beep then right away a lower beep then screen appears looking for everything - I have changed where it plugs in to the MOBO but with no result.
