Power Requirements For Garmin 3590 Gps

I would like to charge this GPS at home using a cell phone power adaptor I have. Car adaptor which came with GPS says 5V and 2A output. Cell phone's power adaptor's specs are 5V and .7A output. I know it'd take longer to charge (2A vs .7A) but could it safely be used?

Yes, it "should" be. Make sure the polarity is correct on the plug. Sometime the center pin is positive and sometime negative. "Usually" it's positive but not always.

The amp rating is not usually an issue, the device will pull what it needs. However, if the source is not strong enough it can over heat or blow a fuse. If this charger works it will simply take longer to completely charge the GPS.

The real issue is the voltage rating. You need to make sure it matches. As long a the charger is 5 volt and the device is 5 volt you'll be OK.
