How To Scan To Pdf File
The output file formats are only four (jpeg, tiff, etc.) but not pdf.
Do I necessarily have to open Acrobat to create a pdf file?

There is a free printer "simulator" that you can install on your PC that looks to be a printer but in fact saves the output to a PDF file.
It's called "Cute PDF" and you can get it here: http://www.cutepdf.com/
Just view your scans, then print them and select CutePDF as the printer. Very simple to use and FREE.
