I Have An Electrolux Cyclone Xl,

The motor just stopped . Is there an overheat mechanism / switch in the unit. Never had a problem before. No water involved. No blockages

Yes the Cyclone XL features an overheat safety switch. See your manual for much on this and recommended step to clean or replace filters.
