Hooking Up Surround Sound To Dynex Lcd Tv?

I have tried hooking up my surround sound to my dynex tv in several different manners now.  To no success it doenst work. I hook the audio cables (red and white) to the audio OUT in the tv and audio in, aux, and even and other "IN" option on my receiver.  For some reason I dont get any sound out of the speakers.  I have it hooked up in the same configuration as I did on my previous lcd tv. Nothing is working...is there a menu option, or a secret to getting it to work??? Thanks for any help!!!

If your receiver has an optical port, and the television has an optical port, that is the easiest and most ideal way to hook it up. Other than that I have no idea why it is not outputting to your receiver.
